Creative Coding Barcelona at Sónar 2025 w/ Andreas Gysin, Maria Castellanos & Alberto Valverde, Roger Pibernat & Sensitive Interfaces
On June 13, 2025, Creative Coding Barcelona took over Sónar+D with a session titled "Creative Coding in Practice: Four Perspectives on Generative Art", dedicated to creative coders and those who find beauty between lines of code and within algorithms.
The session featured four artist presentations that delved into personal practice, creative processes, and the questions that drive their work, and what they hope to inspire in others:
→ “Digital Rituals” with Andreas Gysin
Andreas presented a selection of projects that explored the physicality and limitations of screens, alongside new plotter works and unconventional approaches to working with plotters.
→ “Sound Synthesis” with Roger Pibernat
Roger shared his audiovisual live coding setup, which combined Živa—a SuperCollider quark for live coding music—and Animatron, a tool for improvising frame-by-frame animation in real time, either through code or external controllers.
→ “Interspecies Dialogues” with Maria Castellanos & Alberto Valverde
This research-based project investigated the potential for communication between plants using AI tools. The artists aimed to better understand plant language and behaviour, fostering deeper awareness of the living beings with whom we share the Earth.
→ “Sensitive Interfaces” with Judit Castells, Sara Gamazo, Daniela Guevara Orellano, Paula Jaime, Adriana Mora Meza, Mariana Pachón, Louise Fernandez Vidart & Xavier Manzanares
This collective presentation showcased experimental interfaces designed to engage with sensory perception and explore new modes of interaction between bodies, machines, and environments.
